Explore the world of coffee with this Filter Duo Pack, contrasting flavour characteristics from far lung regions of the coffee producing world. Both these origins practice their own growing and processing techniques, all influencing the final cup. Expect a heavier, juicy texture with notes of pomegranate and candied lime in the Rwanda Kinini Natural and rounded, creamy body in the São Francisco from Brazil with notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut and fudge.

Rwanda Kinini Natural

Since our visit to this washing station back in 2017 we've loved having coffee from Kinini in our range and know first hand the work that goes into making their coffee. Agronomists are on hand year round to help farmers improve quality so that in turn they can receive a higher yield and price for their coffee. As well as the washing station, a school and health centre is provided for the 633 members of the Kinini Co-op. A road has also been built so that, once freshly picked cherries are delivered quickly to the washing station for processing.

Processing

The traditional method of processing coffee in Rwanda is wet or washed process so this natural coffee is something of a rarety. Once picked coffee is dried on raised african beds with the cherries intact and turned regularly. As it dries in the equatorial sun, sweetness and body is intensifies from the cherry much like raisin compared to a grape!

Brazil São Francisco

Granja São Francisco is located in the beautiful mountain range of the Mantiqueira de Minas in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. It sits at around 1,300 metres above sea level. This is a fairly high altitude for a Brazilian coffee. The area has ample and frequent rainfall with consistent mild temperatures. It is recognised today as one of the best coffee growing areas in Brazil.

Variety

The Bourbon variety is known to have exceptional sweetness and mild acidity, which explains why it's such a house favourite here at Atkinsons. Yellow Bourbon is a spontaneous mutation that ripens to a yellow colour. It requires extra skill from the pickers to differentiate it from under-ripe red bourbon.
