This coffee from the Kennisa Co-op showcases all the qualities we love in washed coffees from this region; great balance and complexity with a stone fruit sweetness, jammy mouthfeel and subtle floral aroma. We're getting notes of peach, marmalade and Earl Grey.
This Co-op in Jimmah zone, Western Ethiopia, has only been operating independently for three years and in this time has produced some excellent results. 305 members grow this coffee at altitudes of up to 2100 meters above sea level contributing to that floral note and rounded acidity. Each member grows several hundred landrace varietal trees (Heirloom) often passed down within the families throughout the years on around a hectare of land around their home.
At harvest coffee is picked at peak ripeness. Parchment is then gently dried on raised beds and pulped the same day with an eco-pulper (without the need for water). It is then take to Addis Ababa for hulling and grading with an optical sorter.
We're really enjoying this coffee as a crisp, V60 or Chemex at the moment to make the most of that brightness and complexity.
