KATYTIS MAKES MOKA POT COFFEE
Episode 4
Synonymous with Italian coffee culture, the art deco design of the Moka Pot has remained much the same since the 1930s. Brewing with a Moka Pot is fairly straight forward. Just add boiling water to the lower chamber, add coffee to the metal filter and seal the top chamber. Place over a hob and wait for the coffee rise. Here are some of our top tips for brewing with a Moka Pot.
- Add water to the lower chamber until it reaches below the valve with water from a kettle just off the boil.
- Use a tea towel when screwing the two chambers together.
- Grind coffee for filter, no need to go as fine as espresso.
- Fill the basket with coffee grounds and level out.
- When coffee is rising in the top chamber remove from the heat towards the end of the extraction as the coffee starts to go blonde. Keep the lid open so you can spot this happening.
- Take off the heat and run under a cold tap to help stop the extraction. This helps reduce the risk of over extracting the coffee.
- Make sure you clean thoroughly after use before coffee residue starts to build up.
