The Timemore Chestnut G1 hand grinder delivers excellent grind quality for anything from Aeropress to Cafetiere. With a smooth grinding action, the machining of this grinder is top-notch, delivering a grind quality up there with any domestic electric grinder.
Using the G1 is easy. A lower grinds holder made from chestnut fits snugly into the aluminium upper with four rollerballs. Changing the grind can be done like most hand grinders by adjusting the lower burr under the burr chamber. The Timemore Chestnut G1 also looks great, with a simple and elegant design that won it the Red-Dot design award in 2017.
These burrs are super sharp and for a hand grinder we found it fast and easy to grind with. 18g took us about 30 seconds to grind with very little grind retention. This grinder is perfect for filter brewing and but struggles with espresso.
This helps give a smoother grinding action with minimal divergence, making grinder quicker and easier.
38mm hardened stainless steel conical burrs designed for filter brewing. Espresso burrs are also available from Timemore.
Like many top end hand grinders, the grinder will click when adjusting the grind size. When first unpacking your grinder, set the grinder to the finest setting then count the clicks as you go coarser until you reach your desired grind size. This helps improve consistency and reduces wastage when setting your grind. eg. a 200ml brew might suit 15 clicks, 400ml might suit 20 clicks.
The brush included with this grinder is made specifically for cleaning the Timemore Chestnut G1. We recommend keeping on top of cleaning just to prevent taints and keep it performing better for longer. After cleaning the base and grind dial with the brush, the adjuster can be unscrewed (making the setting as coarse as it will go), then the dial pops off. This reveals the inner burr which also comes out behind which is a spring and washer. The axel then comes out from the top making it easy to clean inside the grinder body. Clean all these parts with brush then reassemble.
Included in the pack you'll also find a nifty little drawstring bag to take your grinder on the go as well a small brush to clean the burrs.
